Stroud based artist Keith Symonds will be showing around 60 recent oil paintings in his first solo exhibition since finishing as an art teacher at Marling School.
As well as numerous portraits of local people there are figure studies derived from observational work undertaken at Stroud Life Drawing, the twice weekly class which Keith runs at the Centre for Science & Art.
With perhaps more than a nod to the pastels and watercolours of his uncle, the artist Ken Symonds, a range of Cornish seascapes, inspired by many happy hours of walking, camping and sketching around the Penwith coast path, make up another significant body of work on display. Whilst firmly rooted in tradition, the paintings have a sometimes unexpected colouring and distinctive brushwork, giving them a definite modern twist too.
